A Gentleman is a 2016 Indian drama film, which was directed and written by Raj and DK. It stars Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead roles. The film tells the story of Roy, a chauffeur who mistakenly enters high society, as he attempts to escape from his past. The movie was released on 18 September 2016.It received critical acclaim from critics upon release with many praising Malhotra's performance as well as Dhilip Subbaraman's cinematography which won him the National Award for Best Cinematography at 65th National Film Awards. On a rainy morning, Roy (Sidharth Malhotra) wakes up to finish his chores for the day. He shares a chawl with his friends who are tailors. Roy gets irritated when he is reprimanded by his boss for sleeping on the job. The boss asks him to handover his uniform. Roy goes to the garage where he works as a chauffeur. On his way, he gets in an accident with Mr. Mathur (Manoj Pahwa), an influential person in the society, but manages to leave the scene before being caught by the police. While driving, he calls up Beera (Chunky Pandey) and tells him that strangers are following him and asks him to help save him by arranging for one lakh rupees for legal fees, if needed. Beera asks Roy to meet at a place called Continental Hotel where they arrange for Mr. Mathur. Roy pays a visit to a palace in Ahmedabad where Mr. Mathur's daughter, Anita (Jacqueline Fernandez) is undergoing a Holi celebration. Roy eyes her but is rebuffed by Anita's father, who refuses Roy entry. In this way Roy gets introduced to Beera who again asks him to meet at Continental Hotel for the final arrangement of 1 lakh rupees from Mr. Mathur's son Virendra Mathur (Tanuj Garg). The two tailors come to know about it and go there and find out that the money has been provided by Mr. Mathur's wife. Beera is shocked to see this. Anita, while returning from the celebrations has an accident while driving under the influence of alcohol. Roy rescues her while Beera returns furious after being cheated by Virendra Mathur. The next day, Roy goes to Mr. Mathur's house with the money and gets filled in about his past.
