Have you heard of Gadar? If not, you're not alone. It's one of those cult classics that only the die-hard cinephiles know about. But there's nothing to be afraid of - it's not a horror movie or something like that. This film is actually an Indian romantic comedy directed by Mohit Suri in 2002, and it follows the story of a couple who fall in love over the internet but struggle to meet one another in real life. It sounds silly at first, but this cult classic actually manages to capture some beautiful themes about love and expectations - themes that are still poignant today. Gadar is a 2003 Indian romance film directed by Mohit Suri, which was based on the true story of two men’s wedding. This was Suri’s second directorial effort after Maneckji Dharmanand Kendrekar (2001). The movie received critical acclaim and became a cult classic. It was the first Indian film to get into the Bollywood Top Ten list. It held its place in that list for nearly two years earning Rs 4 crore at the box office. The film stars Akshaye Khanna, Alia Bhatt and Parikshit Sahni in lead roles while Manoj Joshi has acted in supporting role. The film has been described as a blend of the Bollywood romance and the famous Hollywood western ‘The Horse’s Mouth’. The story revolves around Chulbul Pandey (Akshaye Khanna) an online lover with a mysterious operator. The movie was shot in various locations including Goa, London, London Airport, India and Mumbai. In June 1997, Parikshit Sahni died from liver failure after a prolonged battle with alcohol addiction. His death deeply saddened the cast and crew of Gadar: Ek Prem Katha . The movie was released in 2002 and is dedicated to his memory. According to the director, he felt that this would be the best way to pay tribute to him. The film became an instant hit with both critics and the audience. Bollywood Hungama rated it 4/5 calling it a 'masterpiece' and added that "there is something in this film for everybody". The Times of India gave 4 out of 5 stars stating that "it's a complete package -- moving, gripping, funny". The Hindustan Times described Gadar as one of the best films of 2002 praising its direction, screenplay, music and performances. The music of the film was composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and the lyrics were penned by Javed Akhtar. The songs "Zindagi" and "Zindagi" (originally sung by Kumar Sanu in the film Vijeta) became very popular among audiences. Gadar - Ek Prem Katha (English: Love is a Parting) was released in theatres on 2 November 2002 to critical acclaim. It went on to become one of the biggest hit films in Bollywood history at that time, earning over Rs 20 crore at the box office. cfa1e77820
