This collection contains the complete text of 4 books by Veda Nayanmars, one by Thiruvalluvar and Appar. The books contained within are Tirukkural, Naladiar Thirumozhi, Tirumandiram, Thirupavai & Tiruvacakam. Tirukkural is the best-known work in Tamil literature. It was authored by Thiruvalluvar, one of the three greatest poets of Tamil language along with Appar and Sundaramurthy Nayanar. This work is also known as Thiruppavai. It is a collection of stories in 81 couplets or chapters. Each couplet has nine lines containing around hundred words (usually five to twelve words). Naladiar Thirumozhi is an important work of Tamil language written by Appar, also one of three greatest poets of Tamil with Thiruvalluvar and Sundaramurthy Nayanar. This work consists of 853 hymns in the form of "sangam", which are sung in praise of almighty god Murugan. Naladiar means "song in the assembly" itself. In ancient Tamil sangam referred to a gathering or congregation of poets. Tirumandiram is a philosophical work written by saint Tirumoolar, also known as Tirumular. This work consists of three books, each book contains 1000 couplets called "mukkur" or "padigams". Tirumandiram means sacred body. Thiruvalluvar and Appar were the contemporaries of Tirumular. The saints considered him as guru. The holy text was transmitted orally for six centuries before it was written down by Nambi Andar Nambi in third century CE. Tiruvacakam is another famous Tamil translation of Sanskrit text called Tirumandiram. It was also written by Nambi Andar Nambi during third century CE. It serves as a commentary of the first book of Tirumandiram. It contains 108 couplets or chapters and 1,846 lines or verses.
